CLEANING FILTERS, PORTAFILTERS AND STEAM WAND

In order to clean filters and portafilter (baskets), place a sufficient amount of hot water (preferably taken from the coffee machine) into a large container and add 2 teaspoons of detergent, or powder, used for the blind filter. Next, immerse the filter and the portafilter separately, allowing them to soak for about 10 minutes; the amount of time needed for complete cleaning. Once the 10 minutes have elapsed, thoroughly rinse the two accessories under the coffee machine’s water tap and then dry with paper. Insert the filter into the portafilter and fasten the entire unit back on the coffee machine without tightening too hard to the right so as to avoid ruining the gasket.Cleaning the steam wand is a very important task because residual milk generates bacteria and, moreover, an incomplete wash prevents the correct emulsion of milk. In order to carry out this procedure use a sufficiently high container (i.e. a pitcher), fill it with cold water and add two teaspoons of detergent suitable for cleaning steam wands. Immerse the wand into the water, open the tap for 3/4 seconds and then close it; then repeat the process six/seven times. To rinse, repeat the same procedure by replenishing the container once again with cold water, yet without any detergent. Proper cleaning of the wand can be checked by opening and closing the steam and placing your hand under the tip making sure it remains dry.
